Google’s Nexus Prime smartphones powered by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS is set to hit the market sometime around October. Looks like Google is gearing up to battle with Apple’s much rumoured iPhone 5. The report released by a Korean technology publication- Electronic Times says Nexus Prime is more likely to be the first phone to run Google’s upcoming mobile Operating System Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. It can’t be a mere coincidence considering the fact that last month certain valid reports surfaced saying Google is planning to push the release of Ice Cream Sandwich to October, which is way before its the speculated release date, to take iPhone 5 head on.
It is said that with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), Google is eyeing to bridge the fragmentation problems that it has with Android. ICS is not merely an update of current Android OS, its rather intended to be a multi-device OS, to create a unified user experience across Android Phones, tablets and Google TV. This could help Google in its battle with Apple’s iPhone 5.
The Nexus Prime phone (Nexus 4G) will be powered by a 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz next-generation dual-core processor featuring a massive 4.5 inch screen with 1280×720 resolution. It will also have a 4G LTE radio, 1GB or RAM, a 1 MP front-facing camera and a 5 MP rear-facing camera which is not good news as it is heard that iPhone 5 is going to have an 8 MP rear-facing camera. Nexus Prime will have no physical buttons. Everything will be based on touch controls.
As of now, everything sounds speculative as Google is yet to give any official word about Nexus Prime or Ice Cream Sandwich or about its release date. Keep your fingers crossed, Android lovers. Let us all hope for an eventful October.
